Terms of service.

Informational only — these terms govern this website's use, not your legal repair rights.

Par la rédaction · Registre

Important caveat up front: these terms govern *your use of this website*. They do not govern, limit, or replace the repair rights you have under EU, UK, US state, or other applicable consumer-protection law. Those rights come from statute, and nothing on this site can take them away.

By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. The operator of this service is Richard MENDY, entrepreneur, 10 Rue de Penthièvre, 75008 Paris, France.

01

What this is

This website is a free, informational eligibility checker for the right to repair. You enter a device, brand, model, jurisdiction, and purchase date; we return a plain-English summary of the repair rights that *appear* to apply, plus links to the underlying laws, manufacturer policies, and repairability scores.

It is a research and orientation tool. It is not legal advice, not a legal opinion, and not a substitute for a qualified lawyer or a national consumer-protection authority. Laws change, transposition into national law varies, and the facts of your specific situation matter. Always confirm before taking formal action (for example, filing a complaint or rejecting a repair quote).

02

Free use and license

The eligibility checker is free to use, with no account and no signup. You may consult it as often as you like for personal or non-commercial purposes.

Content licence. The plain-English explanations, jurisdiction summaries, and curated manufacturer notes published on this site are released under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). You may copy, redistribute, and adapt them — including for commercial purposes — provided you give appropriate credit and link back to the original page.

Code licence. The website's source code (where published) is released under the MIT licence — [code repository: see /about].

Quoted legal text, regulator logos, and third-party data (for example, EPREL scores, PIRG grades) remain under their original licences and attributions; see each citation for details.

  • 01Free to use, no account required.

  • 04Third-party data keeps its original licence.

04

Disclaimer (no warranty, not legal advice)

We try hard to keep the content accurate and up to date, but the right to repair is a moving target: directives are transposed at different speeds, US states amend their laws, and manufacturers change their policies. The site is provided "as is" and "as available," without any warranty — express or implied — of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.

Nothing on this site is legal advice, and using the site does not create a lawyer-client relationship. For decisions with legal or financial consequences — rejecting a repair quote, filing a small-claims case, asking a regulator to act — consult a qualified lawyer or your national consumer-protection authority.

Mandatory consumer-rights protections under EU, UK, and national law are not affected by this disclaimer.

05

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the operator's total liability to you, for any and all claims arising from your use of this site, is limited to the amount you actually paid to us in the 12 months before the claim — capped at €15 (the price of the optional PDF).

We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, nor for lost profits, lost savings, or lost business opportunities.

This cap does not apply to: (a) liability that cannot be excluded under EU or national consumer law (for example, mandatory rights under Directive (EU) 2019/771 on the sale of goods and digital content, the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015, or French Code de la consommation Article L. 217-3 et seq.); (b) death or personal injury caused by negligence; (c) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; (d) any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

06

Acceptable use

Please use the site for its intended purpose: looking up your repair rights and helping others do the same. The following are not allowed:

- Automated scraping or bulk extraction of the site's content, beyond what robots.txt and reasonable rate limits permit. If you want a structured copy of the underlying data, email contact@repair-rights.com — we will usually say yes for non-commercial and consumer-rights uses. - Commercial republication without attribution. The CC BY 4.0 licence allows commercial use, but credit and a link back are mandatory. Stripping the attribution is a licence breach and a copyright infringement. - Reverse-engineering the paid-PDF flow to bypass payment, or sharing magic links publicly so others can download without paying. - Using the site to harass, defame, or impersonate a manufacturer, repair shop, or individual. - Submitting malicious input (SQL injection, XSS payloads, denial-of-service) or otherwise interfering with the service's normal operation.

We may rate-limit, block, or take other proportionate measures against accounts or IPs that breach these rules.

07

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms — for example, to reflect a new feature, a new processor, or a change in the law. When we do:

- The "last updated" date at the top of this page changes. - Material changes (anything that affects your rights, your refund eligibility, or what data we collect) are announced on the site's footer for at least 30 days, and — if you bought the PDF in the previous 6 months — by an email to the address you used at checkout. - Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms. If you do not accept them, simply stop using the site; no further action is needed.

Previous versions of these terms are available on request from contact@repair-rights.com.

08

Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by French law (the operator is Richard MENDY, entrepreneur, 10 Rue de Penthièvre, 75008 Paris, France), without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rules of the country where you, the consumer, are habitually resident.

If you are a consumer resident in the European Union, the Brussels Ia Regulation (1215/2012) applies: you may bring proceedings against us in the courts of your country of residence, and we may only sue you in those same courts. If you are resident in the United Kingdom, equivalent protections apply under retained EU law and the Civil Jurisdiction and Judgments Act.

The European Commission also runs an Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) platform at https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr — you are free to use it, although we will normally try to resolve any dispute by email first.

09

Affiliate disclosure

Some links on this site and in the optional PDF point to third-party retailers (currently iFixit, Back Market, Fairphone, and Refurbed). When you click such a link and complete a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no cost to you. These commissions help keep the eligibility checker free for everyone.

We maintain a strict editorial wall: we never accept commissions from any manufacturer whose repairability we grade or whose policies we cite. Affiliate-eligible links are those marked with `rel="sponsored"` and are limited to the partner programs listed in the public `content/affiliate-links.json` file. The full list of programs we will not accept commissions from is recorded there as well.

Affiliate revenue does not influence the eligibility check, the repairability scores we display, or the rights we list. If you ever spot a conflict, email contact@repair-rights.com and we will reply with the change made or the reasoning.
