    Right to spare parts for white goods and TVs

    Manufacturers and importers must make functional spare parts available to professional repairers (and, for some parts, end users) for 7 to 10 years after the last unit of a model is placed on the UK market. Covered products include washing machines, dishwashers, fridges and electronic displays.

    Right to repair documentation

    Manufacturers must provide repair and maintenance information to professional repairers within 1 working day of registration, including circuit diagrams, service manuals, error codes, and software updates.

    Right to repair or replacement under the Consumer Rights Act

    Goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described. If they are not, consumers can ask the retailer (not the manufacturer) for a free repair or replacement within 6 years in England/Wales/NI (5 in Scotland). After 6 months, the consumer must show the fault was present at delivery.

    Maximum 15-day delivery for spare parts

    Manufacturers of covered appliances must deliver spare parts within 15 working days of an order from a professional repairer.

  • Claim a repair under the Consumer Rights Act

    1. 01Find your proof of purchase and contact the retailer (not the manufacturer).
    2. 02State the fault in writing and request a repair or replacement under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
    3. 03If the fault appeared after 6 months, gather evidence (photos, expert reports) showing it was inherent.
    4. 04If the retailer refuses, escalate to Citizens Advice or your card issuer (Section 75 / chargeback).
  • Find a professional repairer who can access manufacturer documentation

    1. 01Search the manufacturer's website for an authorised or registered independent repairer list.
    2. 02Confirm the repairer is registered with the manufacturer's professional repair portal.
    3. 03Ask for a written quote referencing the relevant spare-part availability period.
    4. 04Keep all paperwork for warranty and Ecodesign compliance disputes.
  • Report a manufacturer that refuses spare parts

    1. 01Document the request and the refusal in writing.
    2. 02Submit a complaint to the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS).
    3. 03Inform Citizens Advice consumer service for a parallel record.
    4. 04Keep evidence of the model's market launch date to show parts should still be available.
